Reheat Burrito without Drying It Out: The Best Tips and Tricks

It is a great dish to prepare as it allows you to use a lot of your imagination in cooking. You can put whatever you like and whatever you want inside. And if you don’t have some of the ingredients on hand, it doesn’t matter.

It is important to have a flour tortilla and something to put inside. It can be any meat, like beef, or chicken. All kinds of vegetables, like zucchini, bean, corn, onions, and so on, can also be added. There are actually no limits to your ideas.

Warming Burrito In An Oven

Many connoisseurs of chipotle burritos opt for the oven when they need to reheat their favorite treat. The great advantage of this method is that the burrito will heat up nicely and evenly, and the tortilla will not become gooey and soggy. As a bonus, you will also get a crispy crust. So, this is the best way to reheat chipotle burritos.

Step 1: Preheat the Oven to 225 °F

It is crucial that the temperature is not too high, so make sure to set the oven to a light 225 degrees Fahrenheit and let it heat up.

Step 2: Wrap your Burrito in a Foil

After removing the burrito from the refrigerator, let it stand for a few minutes and then wrap it in aluminum foil. You have to wrap each burrito separately, and not put them together in the same foil.

Step 3: Bake for about 30 Minutes

Place the foil-wrapped burrito in the oven and let it bake for 30 minutes. It should be an ideal time to warm up well. Take the burrito out of the oven and unroll the foil and serve. Be careful not to burn yourself while unrolling the foil.

Reheating Burritos In A Microwave

If you don’t have too much time and want to reheat a burrito fast, don’t feel bad about doing it in the microwave. In the case of burritos, it will not be such a terrible decision. The result will certainly not be perfect, and the texture of the tortilla will change a bit—meaning it will no longer be crispy—but the microwave will do a decent job and you won’t get a soggy burrito.

Step 1: Place the Burrito on a Safe Dish and Sprinkle Some Water

Take a microwave safe plate. Place your burrito on it and sprinkle some water on top of it—just a little water as you don’t need to soak it. A few drops will do to retrieve the moisture of the tortilla. 

Step 2: Heat for a Minute then Flip

Place your wet burrito in a microwave and heat for one minute. After it’s done, flip the burrito to the other side and sprinkle some water again. Then, place it back in a microwave and heat again for one minute. If the stuffing is warm enough, your breakfast burrito is ready to eat. It works great for a frozen burrito as well.

Heating Burrito On A Stove

Reheating a burrito on the stove can be one way to heat your meal. There are, however, a few awkward sides. Unlike the previous methods, after baking, you won’t be able to unwrap the tortilla so easily to add cold ingredients like tomatoes, lettuce, and so on.

The tortilla will be scalloped quite a bit in the pan, so you can only have these ingredients on the side as a side dish. But the tortilla will be crispy and delicious, so not everything is bad.

Step 1: Preheat the Skillet on a Medium Heat

Take your favorite pan and add a little oil to it—just enough so that the burrito doesn’t stick to the bottom. Then, turn the stove to medium heat and let the pan heat up a bit.

Step 2: Put the Burrito in a Skillet and Cover

Put the burrito in a pan and cover it with a lid or aluminum foil. Due to the required rotation, it will be easier for you to use the lid. But if you do not have it for the particular skillet, the foil will come in handy too.

Step 3: Bake for 5 Minutes along with Flipping the Burrito

Bake the burrito in a pan and turn it over to the other side every one to two minutes, so that it is heated evenly on all sides and does not burn. The burrito should be ready in about 5 minutes.

Warming Up Burrito In An Air Fryer

An air fryer will be a great way to heat leftover burritos to warm them up super fast. The method is more than simple. 

Of course, apply all the advice regarding cold ingredients you can take out before heating and put them back in later.

Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer to 400°F

In the case of an air fryer, you go to a very high heating temperature. The whole process will be finished in just a few minutes, so the temperature should be sufficient to do the job. 

Preheat the appliance to 400 degrees before putting the burrito inside. If you have frozen burritos, you don’t even have to thaw them first.

Step 2: Place your Burrito in a Basket

Aluminum foil or other coverings are not required for this heating method. Just spray the burrito lightly with oil spray. 

You can also use a brush and lightly apply the oil. It is important that there is not too much of it and that it does not drip. 

Place the burrito in the air fryer basket so that all pieces are in one layer. Do not stack too much on top of each other. 

Better separate it into a couple of cycles if you have more burritos than your basket can handle.

Step 3: Cook for 2 Minutes

Place the burrito in the air fryer and turn it on for 2 minutes. That’s how long it takes for everything to heat up properly. You can turn your leftover burrito halfway, but it’s not essential.

If you have a slightly thicker version with more filling, it may take an extra minute. Your reheated burrito will be crispy and perfect.

What should you do with the cold ingredients in a burrito while reheating?

Every delicious burrito has so-called cold ingredients that actually and initially need to be cold. These are all those toppings that you add to the burrito after you have baked it. By this, we mean lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and so on. 

One option is to reheat it all together, but the result won’t be as tasty as what you are used to. Heated sour cream and tomatoes just don’t live up to the glory of perfect burrito. Here’s what to do.

Step 1: Before Reheating, Remove Some Ingredients

Before starting to reheat, unwrap your leftover burrito and take out all the ingredients you don’t want to heat. You can do this with all reheating methods we have recommended. 

Step 2: Reheat a Burrito in the Desired Way

When you have omitted individual ingredients, wrap the burrito back, and heat it with your chosen method: oven, microwave, air fryer or stove, whatever. So, heat only those ingredients that you want to be hot. 

Step 3: Unwrap your Burrito and Add the Cold Pieces

When the burrito has warmed up, unwrap it again and now add the cold ingredients as desired. This is a great opportunity to add new salad, new tomatoes, and cream, so your burrito will be refreshed and taste great.

The only method that will limit you in doing this is when reheating on the stove. In which case, the burrito will be scalloped, so it is difficult to unwrap it. However, you can always put the cold ingredients aside and arrange a nice meal on a plate.



Burrito is an excellent treat for lunch or dinner or even for breakfast if you intend to start the day with a serious meal. You can intentionally make more burrito wraps than you need and leave it for a couple of days to have a great meal whenever you want. 

Warming up is really simple, and with a couple of easy tricks, the tortilla will be crispy, and the burrito will taste perfect. We suggest that you give a little effort and take out the cold ingredients before reheating and put them back after the burrito has been heated.
